The new administration of president Joe Biden has announced a pause in deportations for 100 days beginning January 21, 2021.
The order excludes certain individuals who have committed certain crimes or are involved with terrorism.
The bill opens up the possibility that there will be a review in favor of promoting keeping families together, instead of removal through enforcement of removal orders, as the executive order states that on February 1st, 2021, there will be a review of immigrants with removal orders over 90 days and that there will be much consideration regarding alternatives to deportation.
These alternatives could involve:
1. Orders of Supervision. A work permit can be obtained, and the order of supervision must be renewed once a year.
2. Stay of Removal Requests may be granted. A Stay of Removal is a request for an Order of Supervision.
3. Expedited Removal Orders could be rescinded. Expedited Removal Orders are special orders for immigrants detained at the border within a certain radius. ICE and CBP officials can rescind those orders.
